Questions

Before you call, here is what people ask

How long does an exterior repaint take?

Most houses take one to two weeks of working days, weather allowing. Your written estimate gives a range for your house, never a promised date.

What does the written estimate include?

Surfaces, repairs, number of coats, maker's color names and sheens, cleanup, schedule and payment schedule. If it isn't on the page, ask for it.

What isn't included?

Repairs found after the work starts, such as rot behind trim, and extra colors added later. Both are priced in writing before we do them.

Do I have to be home or move my things?

Not for an exterior. Inside, we move and cover large pieces, and you clear small things. We tell you the day before.

My house was built before 1978. Does that change anything?

Yes. Federal rules for paid work that disturbs paint in homes and child-occupied buildings built before 1978 require a certified firm and lead-safe work practices. Our firm certification number is on every page's footer. Ask us how we contain and clean up before you sign.

How many coats, and what sheen?

Primer on bare spots, then two finish coats. Body in flat to low sheen, trim in satin or semi-gloss, doors in gloss or semi-gloss. The estimate lists them by surface.

Who buys the paint, and which brand?

We do. We use premium exterior paint from a major manufacturer, and we name it in the estimate. Ask for the product data sheet.

What about weather and drying time?

We don't paint a wet wall, in rain or in the hours before it. In Atlanta that means moving days in spring storms and on humid summer mornings.

What prep is included, and what costs extra?

Washing, scraping, sanding, caulking and priming are included. Replacing rotted wood and fixing damage found later are extra, in writing.

How do you protect plants, porches and cars?

We cover and uncover every day, hold ladders off the plants, and walk the yard at the end of each day.

Do you paint brick?

Yes. Painted brick is hard to undo, so we talk it through first and paint a test square before you decide.

How do deposits and payments work?

Payments are written into the estimate: what is due at signing, during the work and at the walk-through.

What does the warranty cover?

Workmanship on the surfaces we painted. Terms, limits and exclusions are in your written warranty.

Can you help me choose colors?

Yes. Latrina brings chips to the house, and we paint test squares on your wall before you choose.

Does your packet get my colors approved?

No. Your association or review board decides. The packet puts what it asks for on printed pages.

What about low-odor paint, children and pets?

Ask for the product data sheet for ventilation and drying times. We plan the rooms and the days so the house is usable.
